“Relentless Strike: The Secret History of Joint Special Operations Command” by Sean Naylor. “A superb piece of writing . . . An exceptionally well written, lucid and comprehensive account as to the rise and supremacy of the Joint Special Operations Command on today’s battlefields. . . The book is extraordinary and is probably better and more detailed than that which would be produced by the several Command historians.” ―Foreign Policy
“The Raid: The Son Tay Prison Rescue Mission” by Benjamin F. Schemmer. This book is a detailed account of a mission the U.S. military executed in 1970 to rescue prisoners of war from a camp outside of Hanoi. Even though this mission was to recover prisoners and Owen’s was to kill or capture Osama Bin Laden, there are some striking similarities. Both involved extensive rehearsals with already proven people; both had something go wrong with their helicopter insertion; and both were pulled off at night in about thirty minutes without serious friendly casualties.
