William March’s “Company K”. March served in the 5th Marines during World War One. This novel consists of 113 vignettes about the Marines in Company K.
Erich Remarque’s “All Quiet on the Western Front”. Remarque served in the German Army during World War One. This novel tells the story of Paul Bäumer and his school friends on the Western Front. Not as well known is Remarque’s sequel “The Road Back.” This novel follows the surviving friends after the war and their detachment from civilian life.
Ernst Junger’s “Storm of Steel”. Junger served throughout World War One as a German infantryman. He was wounded seven times and decorated with Germany’s highest honor, the Pour le Mérite. This book is based on his war time diary.
